ORC Week 1 Fall 2022

September 28, 2022

It’s One Room Challenge time!! I asked in Instagram stories what room you thought it was, and many of you guessed correctly!! It’s my bedroom! Many of you guessed my closet but unfortunately I can’t do it yet because I do not have architectural plans for the hallway / bathroom / closet area done yet. Believe me though, its on the list!

I’ll include a few potential design plan options, but the selections are not set in stone. I think it will be more fun anyway to take you along for the decision making process! So let’s get to it.

Ceiling: The plan is to paint the ceiling and then apply a custom lattice configuration. I’ll probably stick with the same design spacing as the mudroom, but add an additional fun element by painting the ceiling before applying the lattice. Spoiler alert, the plan is that it won’t be white!

Walls: they will be covered in a gorgeous wall covering! I do plan to go up the eaves of the house / room so the paper will go all the way to the highest point in the room. The exact pattern is to be determined.

Windows: The plan here is three sets of euro pleat drapes in a coordinating or matching fabric to the wallpaper. I’ll likely add trim to the inside edges. I’ve been thinking about this room for a while and never considered adding roman shades until now, but I think it would be the perfect touch of warmth to do a natural material on a roman shade.

Canopy: YES!! You read that right! I am doing a bed canopy!! This will be a cornice style top section with drapes surrounding the top part of the bed. Still TBD if I’m going to DIY this or have it made.

Lighting: pictured is one of my all-time favorite flush mount fixtures. We’ll see if it comes together or not to use it! I’ll either get new shades for my brass lamps or be looking for a new set of lamps as well.

Furniture: keeping the bed as is (well, you never know), bringing in two vintage nightstands that I acquired last year, looking for a console table, may be another high boy or wardrobe, a bench seat, either two chairs or settee, maybe an ottoman, and various accent pieces.

Starting point for the ORC

Bedding: wanting to do new sheets, new duvet, and coverlet. Probably something super clean and crisp with a monogram or coordinating euro shams.

Art: literally no clue! Stay tuned! haha

Construction: there is one small construction project that will include taking out some moulding and filling a little niche with drywall. I haven’t done that many drywall repairs but how hard could it be, am I right?

One of the most important aspects of the One Room Challenge is a sense of community and encouraging others. Make sure you go to One Room Challenge website to see all of the participants!

Maybe you could put a mirror or art on hinges over the niche so you could store your valuables in there? Although now that’s public 😂🤷🏻‍♀️

  2. Arli says:

I’m so excited to follow along, especially because I just got the curtains for a canopy-thing with cornice over my bed. Not quite sure how to do it, so interested to see what you do. (And most likely copy you!) Good luck.

Love the plans! So excited to see the progress

  4. Absolutely love your design plans! I am updating my guest bedroom too and hope to create a similar vibe. I am excited to follow along for inspiration throughout the challenge. 🙂
